What will the home of the future be like? And what are the trends in modern construction? The excessive consumption of electricity and water resources leads to increased financial costs and active pollution of the atmosphere and soil. Architects are stepping in to save the environment and wallets by developing projects for self-sufficient homes.
Economizing on Electricity – The First Step Towards Home Autonomy
Is it realistic for a self-sufficient home to generate more energy than it needs for consumption? Researchers and architects have already built a structure that successfully meets this challenge. Extensive solar panels on the roof and geothermal wells can continuously generate enough energy to power the lighting, all necessary electrical appliances, and even recharge an eco-friendly electric car without relying on the power grid. We recently wrote about converting cars to electric motors, which is a step towards the rational use of natural resources.
Reducing Water Consumption Levels
The next-generation self-sufficient home features a hidden reservoir beneath the garden that collects rainwater. This water undergoes several purification stages before entering the plumbing system. While rainwater may not completely cover all water expenses, it effectively reduces water consumption by a whopping 50%.
Air Management – Fiction or Reality?
The environmental concept behind these homes doesn't allow residents to live in polluted air. The project developers have found a solution by equipping the residence with a system that controls not only air temperature and humidity but also carbon dioxide levels.
Researchers believe that in the future, there may be such small eco-friendly capsules known as ecological pods, containing all the necessities for living while minimizing the use of natural resources.
Is an Autonomous Home Warm?
A self-sufficient home does not rely on gas heating as it consumes too many resources. However, residents won't freeze in such a structure either. Water is heated using photovoltaic panels, and the floors are covered with wood and terracotta, emitting warmth according to technology.
