Construction Using Primitive Techniques
There’s a popular saying that there are three things people can watch forever: a flickering flame, running water, and… the third varies depending on the context, but one amusing choice is “watching someone work hard and achieve results.” It might seem a bit harsh to find entertainment in someone else’s labor, but it’s simply part of human nature.
Recognizing this trait, some creative individuals saw an opportunity. They started recording and sharing videos on YouTube of people building various structures using only primitive tools and techniques.
Online, you can find videos of clay houses, underground dwellings, swimming pools, water slides, waterfalls, and similar creations. These projects typically take place in tropical forests or remote areas, with tools limited to simple sticks, digging implements, and water containers. The materials used are sourced from the surrounding environment: clay, bamboo, tree trunks, and local foliage. Despite these rudimentary resources, the results are often stunning.
For example, one video features a builder crafting a fully functional swimming pool in a forest over 60 days. Using a stick, he excavates a square pit with steps, a changing area, and lounging space. He lines the pool with a natural sealant made from lime found nearby and even creates natural pigments to decorate the walls. A bamboo lounger completes the setup, and over seven days, he fills the pool by hand using a jug. The video ends with the builder swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying a grilled fish meal wrapped in leaves after his hard work. Despite its simplicity, the pool resembles something you might find at a luxury villa.
Watching these videos is captivating, sparking questions like: Is he really doing this alone without any machinery? Could there be off-camera help? Why is he building this in the middle of the forest? The answer lies in the video’s purpose—to engage viewers. Judging by their immense popularity, these videos are a hit: many garner millions of views (anywhere from 4 to 60 million). For instance, one swimming pool video gained 12 million views in a month. Channels showcasing this content often have millions of subscribers, with videos averaging 15-25 minutes in length. With viewers glued to their screens, total watch time for such channels can reach tens of thousands of hours, translating into significant revenue.
If you’re intrigued, you might consider adopting this idea yourself. You could either create similar content personally or hire individuals skilled in such construction. In regions with low labor costs, such as parts of Asia or Africa, finding talented builders at reasonable rates might be possible. Additional expenses would include video equipment and travel costs. After that, your creativity sets the limits.
If this idea inspires you, don’t hesitate to subscribe, share it on social media, and explore this fascinating concept further.
