AgroMonitor: Modern Technologies for Monitoring Agricultural Activities

At this stage, Ukrainian agriculture is rapidly developing, yet it has not fully departed from the standards and methods of the 20th century. Primarily, this pertains to the processes of automation and computerization, as most even of the largest country's enterprises are accustomed to working in a traditional manner.

However, progress is not stagnant, and even the most conservative entrepreneurs are recognizing the effectiveness of new developments. One such innovative solution is offered to clients by the AgroMonitor team.

How It All Began

Initially, Alexander Skok, the future founder of the AgroMonitor startup, had no plans to work in the field of agricultural technologies. He and his small team of five developers were focused on creating accounting systems, software, and electronics for completely different industries. One day, they received a request to develop moisture meters capable of transmitting their readings online. Interestingly, the client was a foreign company.

The request proved to be interesting and not too difficult, and the developers were surprised by the complete absence of similar solutions in the market. Furthermore, the sensors available for purchase were quite expensive, ranging from $150 to $200. It became evident that these devices could be not only improved but also made more affordable, thus making them accessible to Ukrainian farmers. This is how the AgroMonitor project came about.

Idea and Implementation

Subsequently, the development team set out to create inexpensive and functional moisture meters - sensors that could determine soil moisture and transmit data remotely. Timely irrigation was to be based on these readings, underscoring the crucial importance of the development.

Solving this task proved to be challenging and quite expensive. The project required an investment of $30,000, with a quarter allocated for initial promotion. Another difficulty arose from the reluctance of Ukrainian farmers to keep pace with modern advancements and adopt new technologies, owing to the target audience's lack of awareness and understanding of the significance of such processes.

The most effective method of conveying their ideas to potential clients turned out to be visiting them directly at their workplaces, namely in the fields. Additionally, some clients were found at specialized exhibitions. It was only through direct contact that the developers succeeded in convincing farmers of the effectiveness of their invention.

What's Next?

Currently, AgroMonitor's clients include major companies in the Ukrainian agricultural sector, such as "AgroRegion," "UkrLandFarming," and others. The startup's plans include launching an automated service to provide farmers with cost optimization recommendations. Furthermore, in the near future, there should be the introduction of measuring devices attached to specialized equipment that operate without human intervention.
