Meet Kyler, a twenty-three-year-old entrepreneur who has built a highly profitable side hustle generating ten thousand dollars a month in recurring revenue. His business model is surprisingly simple yet incredibly effective: renting out used washers and dryers to apartment tenants. Working only five to ten hours a week, Kyler has scaled this low-overhead operation into a cash-flowing machine, proving that you do not always need a massive tech startup to build serious wealth.

The Post, Rent, Buy Strategy

Kyler attributes his rapid success to a unique framework he calls the PRB process, which stands for Post, Rent, Buy. Instead of purchasing expensive inventory upfront and hoping for customers, he reverses the traditional business model. First, he posts an advertisement for a washer and dryer rental on Facebook Marketplace. Once a potential customer expresses interest and agrees to the rental terms, Kyler then goes out and acquires the machines. This strategy completely eliminates upfront inventory risk. He essentially secures the revenue before he even spends a dime on the physical assets.

Choosing the Right Equipment

When it comes to the equipment, Kyler avoids brand new, high-tech appliances. Instead, he specifically hunts for older Whirlpool direct-drive washers and dryers manufactured before two thousand and thirteen. These specific models are legendary for their durability and simplicity. Because they lack complex computer boards and fragile suspension systems, they rarely break down and are incredibly cheap to repair. Kyler typically pays around one hundred to two hundred dollars for a complete set on the used market. Sometimes, he even sources free broken machines from online classifieds, fixes them with a thirty-dollar part, and adds them to his rental fleet.

Marketing and Scaling the Business

While Facebook Marketplace provides a steady stream of organic leads, Kyler actively scales his business through targeted local marketing. He identifies apartment complexes that offer washer and dryer hookups but do not actually provide the appliances in the units. He then distributes simple door hangers offering his rental services. For fifty to eighty-five dollars a month, tenants get a fully functioning washer and dryer delivered, installed, and maintained. For many renters, this is a much more attractive and affordable option than spending hours at a public laundromat or dropping a thousand dollars on a brand new set they might have to move later.

Streamlining Operations

To keep the business as passive as possible, Kyler automates his billing using Stripe. Customers are set up on a recurring monthly subscription, eliminating the need to chase down manual payments. For deliveries, he uses a basic SUV and a small enclosed trailer, utilizing a specialized appliance dolly to navigate stairs. If a machine ever breaks down, Kyler simply swaps it out for a working unit or fixes it on the spot, ensuring the customer experiences minimal downtime.

By focusing on a specific niche, utilizing the PRB validation method, and keeping overhead incredibly low, Kyler has created a highly scalable rental business. It is a brilliant example of identifying a common consumer pain point and solving it with a practical, asset-based service.
