Avegant Glyph: Headphones and Theater

magine being able to wear an entire movie theater on your head! This became a reality thanks to the development of the American startup Avegant, which in 2014 showcased a prototype of multimedia glasses called Glyph.

What is Glyph

lyph is miniaturized 3D glasses that, unlike others, do not just display an image on one screen but project the image directly onto the retina through a multitude of small mirrors. It's not surprising that when the invention was revealed at CES 2014, the startup quickly gathered the necessary investment of $250,000 to kickstart production.

his device offers numerous advantages. Firstly, it causes less eye strain. Secondly, the image is clearer and brighter (equivalent to watching an 80-inch TV from a distance of 2-2.5 meters). Thirdly, its compact size allows not only for movie-watching but also for peripheral awareness of the surroundings.

he Avegant Glyph features 2 projectors with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and the battery provides enough power to watch a full-length movie (approximately 3 hours). These glasses can be connected to any device, be it a tablet or smartphone, and boast quality sound. Additionally, the display can be raised, turning the device into headphones.

The current price of this device is around $700.

Future Plans

he developers of Glyph are not resting on their laurels. In the future, they plan to add a mouse function, enabling users to play 3D games and feel like they are inside the game itself. This will allow for even deeper immersion into the virtual world, although the inventors emphasize that their glasses are not just a gadget for the virtual world but a compact movie theater.
