In our previous article, we introduced you to some miraculous inventions of recent years that allow humanity to use Earth's resources more efficiently and without harming the environment. Today, we will explore several more devices and technologies that make the world cleaner and our lives easier and more diverse.
Water Collection Tower
This invention, developed by Italian engineers, aims to improve the situation in various African countries by solving the problem of freshwater scarcity. This water collection tower is a relatively small and lightweight structure made of bamboo and specially selected polymers, which accumulates water through the process of condensation.
In other words, this setup allows collecting water drop by drop literally from the air, providing the population of the driest regions of Africa with clean drinking water. By using this unique invention called "warka" (translated from Ethiopian as "fig tree"), up to 100 liters of water can be collected in a day, eliminating the need for local residents to travel long distances in search of water sources or to drink contaminated water from household waste.
Another advantage of this technology is that the production and installation of such towers do not require significant financial investment and do not harm the environment.
Plant Bioluminescence
The drive to maximize resource efficiency sometimes exceeds all expectations, giving rise to a plethora of seemingly odd inventions. An example is the research by scientists from New York who attempted to crossbreed certain plant species with bioluminescent bacteria.
Despite the romantic nature of this idea, the aim of creating glowing plants is not purely for aesthetic pleasure. The primary motivation was the practical desire to save on electricity and plant these bioluminescent plants in parks and streets instead of installing streetlights.
In the near future, perhaps such "living" lighting will no longer evoke surprise and become a common phenomenon.
Spherical Detonator
A huge sphere made of bamboo and environmentally friendly plastic was created by an Afghan inventor for demining territories of various countries affected by prolonged conflicts, where innocent civilians continue to perish daily due to numerous mines.
For instance, in Angola alone, there are about 20 million mines, requiring at least 24 billion dollars to be defused. The Mine Kafon construction, weighing 70 kg, can neutralize 3-4 mines by being pushed over them by the wind.
The cost of one such spherical detonator is approximately $40, which is 30 times cheaper than using traditional American equipment to destroy a single mine.
Furthermore, developers plan to equip the mechanism with a navigation system to track the sphere's movement trajectory and keep data on which areas have been demined and where the detonator still needs to be directed.
