olor blindness is a very common condition. The cause of it is a malfunction of the photoreceptor cells that control the distinction of colors. This leads to difficulties: colorblind individuals are prohibited from driving, performing many jobs, and face numerous challenges in their daily lives. However, scientists constantly find solutions to help these individuals.
EnChroma Glasses
he main colors that colorblind individuals cannot see are green and red. Companies like EnChroma and Valspar have created glasses specifically for those suffering from protanomaly and deuteranomaly, the inability to differentiate these colors. According to the creators themselves, they have been able to help 80% of colorblind people start living a vibrant life and pursue their passions.
How They Work
imilar to regular glasses, EnChroma glasses have lenses, but they have several layers of a special coating applied to them. These coatings act as filters that block certain parts of the color spectrum from reaching the eyes. They only allow the primary colors to pass through, enhancing contrast, while blocking the colors that the individual cannot see. Currently, there are two main types of these glasses available for purchase.
The EnChroma "Cx-14" are the darkest and strongest, suitable for outdoor use. The less intense EnChroma "Cx-25" is effective but not recommended for indoor use. The EnChroma "Cx-65" are suitable for indoor settings, allowing for full enjoyment of activities like watching TV or working on a computer.
Contraindications for Use
Like any medical device, these glasses have certain contraindications, so it is advisable not to use them without consulting an optometrist.
