Prefabricated oversized cargoes and heavy equipment can be transported using collapsible containers. While standard designs have been in use for a long time, innovative products are gaining popularity. Collapsible containers allow for changing transportation methods according to the properties and characteristics of the cargo.
Container Features
The collapsible design was created based on intermodal products. The container was improved by the Dutch engineer Rene Gisbers. The main advantage of the design is its ability to automatically fold and unfold, allowing for savings on labor costs. The primary materials used in production are aluminum and fiberglass elements. Along with the innovative design, the container possesses the following features:
- Corrosion Resistance. The materials used do not react with moisture, reducing maintenance costs and the need for new purchases.
- Buoyancy. A benefit for transport companies operating by sea routes. In unforeseen situations, if the container falls into the water, it remains afloat, preserving the cargo integrity.
- Weight. Very lightweight materials significantly reduce the structure's weight. On average, a collapsible container weighs 400 kg less. Strength is not compromised.
- Maintenance. The container does not require special operating conditions and can be easily cleaned with common means.
- Thermal Insulation. To ensure sufficient rigidity of the side walls, the construction is made of multiple layers, allowing for better heat retention.
- Good Radio Frequency Conductivity. Installing GPS on cargoes may be ineffective if the container blocks signal transmission, making this feature crucial.
In addition to the design properties, low production costs of the product can be highlighted. This affects the cost of the containers. For companies assisting people with relocation, these features help save significantly on the budget and organize the process, similar to the concept of using FrogBox.
Advantages
Unlike conventional designs, collapsible containers are easier to transport when empty. The folded product takes up little space, allowing multiple containers to be transported on one vehicle simultaneously. This saves time and fuel.
Moreover, for small companies with limited warehouse space, the possibility of purchasing a large number of containers without the need for extra storage space emerges. Due to the low cost, high operational performance, and savings, Rene Gisbers' development becomes an excellent solution for most transport companies.
