Top 10 Fascinating Discoveries in Backyards:
Perhaps everyone has dreamed at least once in their life of finding a real treasure. Some people have been very lucky in this regard. In this list, we will tell you about the 10 most interesting discoveries in people's own yards. Some of them are simply luxurious, while others are rather eerie, but in any case, all these "treasures" are very unusual and most importantly found by ordinary people.
1) Armor of a Giant Armadillo
Once, an Argentine named Jose Antonio Nieves discovered something very similar to a giant dinosaur egg near his farm. When he showed the find to experts, it turned out to be the armor of a prehistoric glyptodon - a creature very similar to a modern armadillo but the size of a small car. The armor also featured many holes, most likely left by predators or other glyptodons during a fight.
2) Native American Bones
A resident of El-Haraneya village near the legendary Giza discovered a secret tunnel in his yard. It likely leads to the largest of the pyramids in the complex - the Pyramid of Khufu. This passage was mentioned by Herodotus, but its recent discovery happened only recently.
4) Bag Filled with Drugs
In late 2012, Los Angeles resident Mac Reid decided to fetch tools for installing solar panels on his roof in the basement. To his surprise, on one of the shelves in the basement, he found a bag filled to the brim with packets of marijuana. Obviously, someone had broken into his house and decided to stash their supplies there. The police estimated the contents of the bag to be worth about $175,000. Naturally, all the drugs were confiscated, and a note was left for the would-be dealer Mark, apologizing and informing him that the drugs were now with the police.
5) Dinosaur Remains
In 1967, UK resident John Lambert discovered a huge bone on his property. At that time, he did not think much of it and only showed the find to experts 16 years later. It turned out that the remains belonged to a prehistoric reptile, a plesiosaur. It lived in the Earth's seas around 60-250 million years before our era.
6) Ferrari
In 1978, two kids digging in their back yard unearthed a premium-class Ferrari Dino 246 GTS. Later it was revealed that the car was reported stolen and its burial was likely part of an insurance scam. After extraction, the car was handed over to the insurance company and sold at an auction.
7) One of the Largest American Treasures
A married couple discovered this treasure while walking their dog in their backyard. Initially unearthing one canister of antique coins, they later found 8 more. All the discovered money was minted between 1847 and 1895. The total value of the coins at that time was $27,980. Most of the treasure was successfully auctioned off by the couple, with an estimated total value of $10 million.
8) Bomb Shelter
When father and son Otcasek bought a house in Florida, they suspected it contained a bomb shelter constructed during the nuclear panic era. However, they thought the shelter was no longer usable. Their surprise was immense when they found the bomb shelter in perfect condition, with all supplies, from books to food and drinks, still intact from the previous owner.
9) Medieval Treasure
In 2007, an Austrian found a treasure trove on his property consisting of a couple of hundred various precious items such as amulets, pendants, and rings. Strangely enough, he didn't attach much importance to the find and stored it in his basement for two years. Only during a house move did he show the treasure to specialists, who determined that the artifacts were over 650 years old. All items were donated to the local museum free of charge.
10) Meteorites
They say lightning doesn't strike the same place twice, but what about celestial bodies? This rule was challenged by a Bosnian resident, Radivoje Lajic, whose yard has been hit by meteorites not once, not twice, but a total of 6 times. Scientists confirmed that all found stones were indeed meteorites and are now puzzled as to why they fall precisely in the Bosnian's yard. Radivoje himself doesn't pay much attention to his finds but reinforced his house roof with metal beams, just in case.
Feel free to share this material with your friends on social networks and find out what interesting discoveries they have made in their own yards.
