An exciting project was presented by the Hungarian startup Platio, founded by a group of enthusiasts dedicated to clean technologies. They have set out to transform sidewalk pavement into a solar energy generator.
How It Works:
The technology is based on solar panels made of toughened glass that capture sunlight. These panels are mounted on special cast forms made from recycled plastic waste, ensuring stability and secure fixation even on heavily trafficked sidewalks. High-quality electrical wiring is embedded inside the panels to facilitate their connections.
This innovative pavement not only serves its primary functions but also boasts longevity once installed. A single square meter of these panels can generate up to 160 kW of energy. Installing such pavement is as easy as putting together regular Lego blocks.
Financial Aspect of the Project
The company has already raised around $70,000 for project development and has sold its first 150 square meters of solar sidewalk. Despite experts skeptically assessing the potential efficacy of such projects based on past unsuccessful attempts at creating "solar roads," the creators remain confident in their project's future. They claim that it could eventually serve as a fantastic alternative to traditional concrete pavements.
