Kickstarter is a platform that helps bring projects to life by connecting them with investors. The service has been operating for about eight years, during which time 24,000 projects have been financed by two million people.
Kickstarter offers creative projects the opportunity to find investors. One unique feature of this platform is that authors can independently choose the required amount for their projects. To reach this goal, the project is given a specified period to raise the funds. If the target is exceeded, the author receives the money; if not, they receive nothing. Another interesting aspect is that if an idea is exceptionally successful and raises much more money than initially stated, the author can receive more than the requested amount for their project.
Now, let's highlight some of the most popular and funded works by designers on Kickstarter who have raised significantly more than their stated goals.
Pebble
Starting off the list are Pebble smartwatches. Pebble watches have the ability to interact with smartphones by providing notifications for texts, calls, and alerts through subtle vibrations. These watches can be enhanced with specialized apps to offer additional functionality. Pebble devices can serve as GPS navigators, distance trackers, and even music controllers for activities like running and cycling. They feature a water-resistant casing and a battery life of about a week on a full charge.
An amount of $100,000 was requested, but they raised an impressive $10,260,000.
Zion Eyez Glasses
These glasses allow for high-resolution video recording and photography. The recorded content is stored on flash memory and can be transmitted through various methods. The glasses can interact with smartphones, enabling users to live stream captured footage using dedicated applications. The great functionality of these glasses makes it convenient to record long sequences of actions from a first-person perspective.
They requested $55,000 but received $343,000.
Une Bobine Cable
This invention is a simple yet practical device: a smartphone charging cable made of flexible and rigid materials. Its purpose is to prevent common mishaps while charging smartphones, such as falls from tables or exposure to liquids, which could scratch the phone's surface. Made from a special material, this cable allows users to bend it in any way needed to support the phone during charging.
An amount of $9,800 was requested, but they raised $212,200.
Jot
Jot addresses the issue of freezing fingers in winter while using a smartphone. The device takes the form of a pen with a special tip that the smartphone responds to as if it were a finger.
An amount of $2,500 was requested, but they raised $168,500.
Elevation Dock
his device, though not entirely unique like other docking stations, is designed to simplify the use of iPhones. According to users, it offers more convenience compared to competitors. Elevation Dock's advantages include easy phone removal, enhanced speakers, and an 8-degree tilt angle that allows for video calls without moving the phone.
A sum of $75,000 was requested, but they raised $1,460,000.
Hidden Radio & Bluetooth Speaker
Hidden Radio & Bluetooth Speaker is a minimalist-style radio receiver controlled by twisting the lid to adjust the volume. Developers claim it delivers crystal-clear sound quality, especially when paired with Apple devices, making it a noteworthy feature of the radio. The speaker's volume peaks at 80 dB, with a battery capacity lasting up to 30 hours.
An amount of $125,000 was requested, but they raised $938,000.
The Zboard
The Zboard is an electric skateboard capable of reaching speeds up to 27 kilometers per hour. To initiate acceleration, users must start riding manually and then regulate the speed using pressure-sensitive panels. Applying pressure to the front accelerates the skateboard, while pressure on the back slows it down. The skateboard must be charged from an outlet, with a full charge allowing for about five hours of riding.
An amount of $10,000 was requested, but they raised $278,000.
