Drone Saving Human Lives

Every day, around 10 people die or sustain serious injuries from anti-personnel mines. There are over 110 million of these "silent killers" scattered around the world. Eliminating them is a labor-intensive, expensive, and risky endeavor for humans. The Hasan brothers, Mahmud and Masud, took on the challenge to tackle this issue. They introduced a drone project capable of remotely destroying mines.

The Creation Story

The brothers were born in Kabul, Afghanistan. Growing up in a country plagued by constant wars, they witnessed the gruesome aftermath of mine explosions multiple times. After moving to the Netherlands, they immediately started developing a device that could detonate mines remotely. Their first invention was the Kafon drone. This robot could traverse fields and detonate mines through sweeping actions. The device gained significant popularity. However, the Hasan brothers didn't stop there with their innovations.

The next step was an unmanned device capable of detonating mines from a distance. To support the project, a crowdfunding campaign was launched on Kickstarter. The idea received financial backing from over 4.5 thousand individuals, raising a total of over $177,000.

Advantages of the New Drone

Existing demining methods are very expensive (averaging up to $1,000 for one mine). In contrast, the new drone will allow clearing an entire mine-laden field for the same cost. According to the developers, just a few thousand of these drones could completely eradicate all mines on the planet within 10 years. Moreover, this demining method is entirely safe for the operator since they control the device remotely and remain at a safe distance from the explosions.
