Ink-free Eco-Friendly Printer: Going Green Without Cartridges or Ink

The essence of the development

The innovation by Dutch scientist Ven Chandrasekhar allows transferring characters onto paper by burning them. By moving the laser, letters are burned onto the sheet, transferring digital text onto paper.

This is not the first attempt to create such a device. In the past, burned letters were unstable, easily washed away even with a light touch, and had a more brownish color. However, developers have now made the process more stable and significantly improved print quality. Sheets printed using this 'burning' technique are indistinguishable from standard inkjet printer output.

The technology has already been tested by the renowned German printing institute SID and will soon hit the market. Experts note that apart from the obvious economic benefits of this printing method, another significant advantage will be a substantial reduction in the amount of ink and plastic cartridges required for printers.
