A group of innovative minds pondered the practicality and benefits of modern housing. People construct vast spaces, some of which remain vastly underutilized. Not to mention, construction activities often harm the environment. Processes involved in heating and powering buildings also pose significant harm to nature. Moreover, in remote areas dedicated to scientific research or tourism, constructing decent housing proves to be incredibly challenging.
In response to these challenges, the Eco-Capsule was invented – a miniature home equipped with energy-saving features. Within this compact dwelling lies everything essential for comfortable living: a kitchen, work and dining areas, a bathroom with a shower, and storage spaces for sports or scientific equipment. The walls feature two opening windows. Thanks to this capsule, one can reside in the wildest corners of the planet, relishing living conditions comparable to a hotel stay.
Energy supply does not require connection to the grid or fuel provision. Electricity is generated through multiple solar panels and a wind turbine. This dual energy system is connected to a sizable battery, ensuring continuous lighting in the house even during periods of low solar and wind activity. From an energy perspective, the house is entirely self-sufficient.
The dome-shaped exterior of the house facilitates rainwater and dew collection. The collected water undergoes filtration and can be used for various household purposes. The filtration system is robust enough to allow the use of water from any natural sources for domestic activities and cooking. Thanks to its autonomous system, one can comfortably reside in this home without connections to centralized utilities throughout the year.
The interior space of the Eco-Capsule amounts to 10 square meters. Despite its modest size, the interior ergonomics are so well-designed that two adults can comfortably live in the house without encroaching on each other's space.
The spherical design of the capsule optimizes water collection, and the built-in filters allow the utilization of water from various sources. Thanks to its fully autonomous system, even in remote areas far from civilization and centralized power supply, one can reside in the Eco-Capsule for an entire year. The area of the Eco-Capsule amounts to 10 sq. m. Despite its miniature dimensions, two adults can comfortably accommodate here.
The Eco-Capsule can be transported to any corner of the globe via any means of transportation: container shipping over sea or air, on a trailer by car, etc. No specific preparatory measures or precautions are required during transportation.
The Eco-Capsule is a project by the Slovakian company NiceArchitects, currently in the preliminary readiness phase. The manufacturers aim to complete development by the end of 2015 and commence official sales in the first half of 2016. While pricing details are undisclosed, the official website presents an estimated shipping cost: EUR 1500 (Slovakia–Melbourne), EUR 2700 (Slovakia–Johannesburg). Hence, one can infer that the cost of the Eco-Capsule will also be substantial. Beyond limitless tourism opportunities, the Eco-Capsule serves as an excellent option for independent research endeavors.
