Recently, trials were conducted on a new version of a flying board created by Frankie Zapata. His invention is based on a turbojet engine. The power of the engine provides enough thrust to lift an average-sized person to a height of approximately 3000 meters. Unfortunately, the energy to sustain operation is currently only sufficient for a 10-minute flight. However, the project is still in the development stage.
The Creation Story
The idea sprouted long ago. Many inventors attempted to create a compact autonomous device for air travel. Frankie Zapata first pondered this in 2011 when he introduced a water board that gave the sensation of hovering over water. Not long ago, the first version of a hoverboard surfaced, which can be read about on our website.
Through trial and error, Zapata has upgraded his creation several times and introduced new technological solutions. Currently, the flying board can reach speeds of 150 km/h. However, these figures are purely theoretical as the trials were limited to a flight height of 30 meters, with the speed maintained within safety limits for the test pilot.
Future Plans
The current prototype presented is fully operational. The main challenge lies in the fuel tank's capacity, which is located on the pilot’s back and is only sufficient for short flights. This factor hinders achieving an optimal balance between construction costs and overall value. Frankie Zapata plans to address this issue shortly and achieve the best results.
