Annual pollution of global water bodies could soon become a significant environmental issue. That's why scientists are working diligently to come up with ways to purify water. The main focus today is on collecting PVC and PET waste. This primarily includes plastic bottles that float on the surface. Currently, it is estimated that there are roughly 5 billion tons of PET waste in the oceans. Bojan Slat proposed a solution to this problem using extensive water barriers.
Construction Features
The "Ocean Cleanup" project was developed in 2013. The project initially included:
- Waste processing station with a platform;
- Floating barriers that collect trash.
The main challenge was separating trash from fish. The structure had to be stationary and remain anchored, while trash is funneled into it by water currents. After refining operational aspects, the project met all necessary requirements and won several awards in the field of ecology.
The scale of the project and sponsor influence enabled the idea to spread. By 2014, approximately two million USD in investments had been allocated for the creation of several structures. As a result, the project became the most successful in a non-commercial setting. Over 70 scientists conducted research and reached a consensus on the effectiveness of the structure.
The project has already been implemented in several locations in the world's oceans, fully meeting the stated criteria. Moreover, the collected trash could potentially be a foundation for a profitable business.
Share information about this project with your friends and acquaintances. It will provide an opportunity to develop your own idea in the field of ecology and help establish a high-income business.
