The Technological Advancements of the 1980s and Beyond: A New Era of Innovation
People born in the 80s witnessed firsthand how technological progress can transform the world around us. In a blink of an eye, a plethora of wearable "smart devices" emerged, and technologies advanced to levels unimaginable even in the wildest fantasies of those times. Today, progress continues unabated, as demonstrated by Google showcasing new inventions that will soon be integrated into mass-produced gadgets. For developers of new startups and business ideas, the time is now to ponder on how to leverage these trends to increase their capital.
Project Soli: Revolutionizing Wearable Electronics
One of the most intriguing developments is Project Soli – a technology that doesn't just enhance gadget functionality or introduce another "smart" device but fundamentally changes how we interact with wearable electronics. This innovation enables full-fledged touchless control of smartphones, tablets, music players, watches, and more. The technology is being developed by Google's Advanced Technology division, under the leadership of Ivan Pupyrev, a former citizen of Russia.
The innovation consists of a miniature radar capable of reading user gestures and translating them into control signals. For example, tapping with a pointing finger will be interpreted as a button press, while rotating movements with the same fingers will scroll the screen, and so forth.
Typing text through such control may be challenging, but user interactions with gadgets and household appliances will become much more intuitive and straightforward. It's hard to imagine how app navigation will evolve after integrating such a radar into devices.
The technology was introduced back in 2015, with Google announcing its readiness to share it with device developers in 2016.
Other Google Trends
In addition to Project Soli, Google's Advanced Technology is working on several other projects poised to further transform our gadget interactions:
- Project Jacquard – utilizing textiles as touch panels for gadget control.
The technology incorporates fine metallic conductive fibers woven into the fabric structure to detect user touches and relay them to the gadget. Future plans include creating bidirectional tactile and light feedback. - Project Abacus – aimed at maximizing personal gadget security.
This system memorizes a range of user actions: typing style, walking patterns, movement routes, voice, facial features, and more. A more advanced security system has yet to be conceived by humanity even in theory. - Project Vault – a cutting-edge corporate data protection system based on microSD cards with a separate operating system incorporating various cryptographic solutions, preventing data theft by hackers.
Once these Google projects materialize, and startups' ideas (like rapid gadget charging) come to life, wearable devices will resemble the boldest fantasies of modern science fiction creators.
