Advanced computer technologies are becoming increasingly common in everyday life to make familiar household chores less burdensome and improve personal safety.
Architectural firm BIG, in line with global trends in advanced technology, has developed the Friday Smart Lock - a next-generation lock that combines functionality, security, and elegant design.
The Friday Smart Lock, utilizing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies, integrates with smart home protocols like Thread and Apple HomeKit. One of the key features of the lock is the ability to unlock the door with a phone without needing a physical key. The smart lock recognizes the owner's proximity via Bluetooth and opens the door after a light tap. In cases where the phone is either dead or forgotten, the lock can also be opened with a key.
The smart lock is made of wood, steel, and ceramics, designed to complement any door. The lock is compact, with a width of less than 8 cm and a height of no more than 5 cm. There are four handle design options provided: wood, ceramic, stainless steel, and bronze, with two more variations promised by the developers. Handles can be purchased separately.
Friday Lock operates on a non-rechargeable lithium battery. The smart lock monitors battery levels and notifies the user when it is low. Users can order a replacement battery through the manufacturer's app, with deliveries available in the US and Scandinavian countries. The battery is designed to last approximately a year.
