Discover the Floating Pool in New York
The Hudson River in New York is heavily polluted, making swimming in it prohibited. To ensure water enthusiasts can still enjoy a refreshing dip, the city authorities came up with a brilliant solution – the creation of the floating pool, known as Pool + POOL. It is the first and only pool that floats on water.
Historical Inspiration
The idea of the floating pool is not new. Modern-day creators drew inspiration from historical records showing that in the late nineteenth century, fifteen floating baths were used in New York City, open to all residents.
The Pool + POOL is set on an old barge that was completely refurbished to accommodate multiple pools. Approximately four million dollars were spent on purchasing and renovating the barge, significantly less than the cost of building a stationary pool on land. Interestingly, there is no space in the city for constructing a new leisure facility.
The pool measures 25 meters in length and can accommodate up to 170 people at once. Throughout the season, around 50,000 individuals can enjoy their time in the pool. It features four modules, allowing visitors to choose their preferred setting.
The pool's water is sourced from the river, passes through a filtration system, and is delivered completely clean. No chemical agents or additives are used in water purification, and regular water changes are carried out. Pool + POOL not only provides a convenient and affordable recreational experience but also serves as an excellent method of purifying the water body from pollutants.
Future Mobility
The project embarked on its journey in the summer of 2016 and is currently situated near Baretto Point Park. However, city authorities assure that the barge will be mobile, ensuring all city residents have the opportunity to swim in this unique pool.
