Keeping up with the latest trends in modern technology, it's clear how popular using tablets, smartphones, and other touchscreen devices has become. It's no surprise—tapping on what you see is very convenient and intuitive. It's common nowadays to see even the smallest children sitting with some gadget, poking at the screen with their little fingers. It's understandable that traditional monitors could soon become a thing of the past, just like desktop PCs. But what if you're not ready to part with your old monitor yet and buying a new touchscreen or tablet feels like a stretch financially? That's where Apple came up with a special device for monitors, especially for their iMacs.
This device transforms your computer into something akin to an iPad, but with a larger screen. Your regular screen becomes touchscreen, responding to touches and finger movements. It looks like an empty frame that attaches to the screen with magnets, without any additional glass. This device is called the Zorro Macsk (translated from English as "Mask Zorro"). The frame connects to the computer via a USB port and doesn't require any driver installation. It operates using a grid of infrared rays that sense finger movements. Thanks to this, you can perform all the standard actions you would on tablets: zoom in or out on images, swipe through pictures, and perform various other manipulations. You can even use your finger as a pointer on the screen.
Currently, they have developed a frame for a 21-inch display. They also plan to release a frame for a 27-inch display. The device is compatible with two operating systems: MacOS and Windows. It comes in multiple color options, allowing users to customize the look of their home computer. You can purchase this device on the manufacturer's website for $199, significantly less than even a basic iPad. Plus, you get a whole 21-inch touchscreen space instead of the smaller iPad screen.
The Zorro Macsk could be an indispensable tool not only for regular users but also for designers who find a small tablet insufficient and a large touchscreen unaffordable. There's a niche here with a multitude of potential buyers.
This new business idea of selling gadgets to turn regular monitors into touchscreens could be a lucrative and sustainable source of income for enterprising individuals for a long time (at least until everyone fully transitions to touchscreen displays or until the next big innovation).
