Description and Creation History
The Hungarian architect, Aron Loshonci, came up with and patented litrakon in 2001. The main feature of this material is its transparency. Through litrakon, shadows, illumination, or light reflections are clearly visible. This effect is achieved by mixing a fine-grained cementitious solution with optical fiber threads. If the percentage of these fibers in the overall mixture does not exceed 5%, the material maintains its functional properties while becoming transparent. Visually, litrakon resembles granite or artificially aged marble rather than concrete.
Applications
This invention appealed not only to industrial builders but also to the entertainment industry. By combining this transparent concrete with lighting, unique bar counters, partitions in bars or restaurants, space-dividing walls in hotels, art installations, and many other details capable of drastically transforming interiors can be created.
The production of such material is technologically complex. The main challenge lies in laying the optical fiber tubes. To solve this problem, the purchase of expensive equipment from abroad or the construction of custom machines is necessary. Litrakon is sold in special blocks with a height of 500 and a length of up to 1300 mm. The cost of one square meter of this material starts from $35 and depends on the thickness and size of the slab. The high price is largely due to the complexity of transparent concrete production and its decorative advantages.our Telegram channel for daily business ideas and expert tips.
