Innovative Solar Power Plant by Kharkiv Developers

The team of inventors from Kharkiv aims to revolutionize the way solar energy is harnessed. They have completely ditched the conventional solar panels and instead have developed a device that converts the heat energy from sunlight into electricity.

About the Team

Andriy Korneyenko is responsible for all the calculations in the project. Yuriy Karelin handles all queries related to electronics and the generator. Nikolay Khristenko is the developer of conversion components and the leader of the group. Maxim Losev, an expert in radio astronomy, and Yuriy Kobzar, a specialist in wide-format technology, also contribute to the project.

The Invention's Essence

According to the creators, the working principle of their power plant is not overly complex. The entire structure consists of 3 components:

1. Special orientation device: It allows the system to track the Sun throughout the day.
2. Special radial mirror: It collects and concentrates sunlight.
3. System equipped with a generator and turbine that converts heat energy into electricity.

The operation relies on a thermodynamic cycle, similar to that used in any large power plant. Solar energy is captured by a special heat exchanger. A liquid condensate is placed in the tubes of the steam generator. When it evaporates due to solar energy, the turbine receives energy that converts into electricity.

Project's Perspectives

Hooli's team development already won the prestigious Sunny Day 2016 competition, bringing its creators $2500 for implementation. Once the power plant is fully operational, it will be handed over to the Kyiv-based company EnergyTorrent for enhancement and the dissemination of alternative energy sources. Nevertheless, the blueprints and instructions will be publicly available for enthusiasts.
