Andrey Rudenko: How did you manage to get 9 million views and 23,000 subscribers? Give me some clear tips that will work 100%, and I will have 20,000 subscribers.
- Actually, 20,000 subscribers is not that much nowadays. Back when we started (Eldar didn't start his channel alone, but with his friend Nikita, whom they don't really support or develop anymore), the main strategy was to provide real value to people in our videos. When you offer high value, like a video lesson, it should be a real lesson, not just some talk where you show off what everyone knows. It should be a step-by-step explanation of a topic or subject matter.
For example, we had a theme - teaching how to play the guitar. You can search "I'm a guitarist" on YouTube and find the channel with over 9 million views we're talking about.
The key for a YouTube channel is not just the number of views but primarily the number of subscribers, followed by the daily view count because daily views bring traffic to work with. For instance, on the "I'm a guitarist" project, we get around 10,000 views per day on average across all videos.
There are videos that get watched by 3,000 people every day, some by 100 new viewers daily, and so on. When a channel's metrics are growing - subscribers and daily views - then the channel is developing, experiencing natural growth.
So, the first tip is to provide real value, but the second tip slightly contradicts the first. This is because there are different video formats, including tutorial videos. This is the format I usually follow on YouTube. I have 2 channels now. The first one is about finances and various ways to make money, which I started about six months ago, and the second one is "I'm a guitarist."
Essentially, all my videos are lessons. This format is narrow and specialized. Most people with top positions on YouTube, millions of views, hundreds of thousands of subscribers (some have millions), focus on entertainment. They don't offer video lessons but entertainment content.
People can shoot any nonsense, like eating at McDonald's, doing dishes, or making faces on camera. People will like, watch, smile, comment because these individuals are already popular, known, and people are drawn to them, especially school kids who are drawn to such interesting personalities. A prime example is Pasha Mikus, one of the first to create "vines" (short videos) where he dissects various situations. He showcases mini-scenes, and now he is a video blogger.
Girls, especially schoolgirls and college students, are drawn to him and start liking, commenting, and sharing with each other.
You need to decide on the audience you want to attract, whether school kids, usually naive and broke, which is not a bad audience as it can quickly boost popularity.
If you are targeting must-have audience, a broad audience, it's important to be cool, unconventional, and bright. If you are targeting a serious audience, planning to monetize with intellectually and financially well-off viewers, usually an older audience (my audience), you need to conduct yourself accordingly. Jokes and appearance matter less here; content - what you offer, teach, and how you do it, the quality of your information and videos, is more crucial.
Andrey Rudenko: So if I want to create a successful channel, I need to define the theme and the audience I will target?
- Yes. It's crucial to understand whether it will be an entertaining channel with higher popularity potential or an educational channel that will take longer to develop. For instance, my channel, named after me "Eldar Guzairov," focusing on money-making methods, is aimed at the adult audience, so that in a few years, it can become a serious player on the YouTube market and be monetized successfully.
I know this topic is currently one of the most lucrative in terms of ad revenue. Anything related to money, business, tourism always attracts significant revenue. However, despite having nearly 8,000 subscribers in half a year, which is relatively low. I didn't invest much in its development because if I had created an entertaining channel with the same time and little money, it would have around 50 to 70,000 subscribers now. But it only has 8,000 because it's educational, not purely entertainment.
Andrey Rudenko: So, I think you've revealed the ultimate secret of YouTube promotion - finding your audience and creating quality content.
- Yes, that's probably the most important but also the most challenging part because, like everyone knows, one must be disciplined, focused, active, but few actually live up to that standard.
Andrey Rudenko: I think we'll have a more detailed chat on Friday at the "Successful Youth" online school event. You'll share more insights on how to continue with quality content.
- Yes, and more.
Andrey Rudenko: It was great chatting, Eldar. Friends, you've just witnessed a real expert, so don't miss out on Friday. You can register or simply download the seminar later. Take care, dear friends, and stay positive.
