In the first part of the article, we got acquainted with a fun gadget called a quadcopter or drone. We learned that many of these devices can have a camera installed, allowing you to capture amazing aerial shots and videos. If you're into photography or videography, a quadcopter can be an invaluable tool for you.
However, people's creativity has found other uses for this device beyond just photo and video shooting. In this article, we will explore equally interesting business ideas related to the use of drones.
1. Drone Waiter
Each year, many developers and designers participate in the international Electrolux Design Lab competition. At one of these events, a young inventor named Herman Haidin introduced the world's first drone waiter called Yura. A fully automated flying robot capable of serving drinks and snacks, recharging on its own, taking orders from customers by recognizing their voice, pouring drinks, heating and cooling beverages, calculating their calorie content, and much more. While it's currently just a concept, who knows, maybe tomorrow we'll be served by such robot waiters in restaurants.
2. Pizza Delivery
Now, pizza delivery by drone is not just a myth, unlike the robot Yura - it's a reality. Back in June 2013, Domino's Pizza released a commercial showing pizza being delivered by a drone, elegantly flying around trees and obstacles to bring fresh pizza right into the hands of satisfied customers. It was just a promotional stunt back then.
Following suit, an Indian company, Francesco's Pizzeria, successfully flew a quadcopter over 1.5 km in 10 minutes (which, by the way, takes 30-40 minutes by car in that region due to traffic jams) to deliver pizza to a customer on the rooftop of a 21-storey building.
In 2014, Russia witnessed its first commercial drone delivery of pizza. "Dodo Pizza" in collaboration with "Copter Express" dispatched a drone with pizza to the center of a city park where a large crowd usually gathers. The pizza descended on a rope, was received by a pizzeria employee, and sold by the slice to astonished onlookers, bringing resourceful businessmen their dividends.
3. Spy in Detective Agency
Today, drones are extensively used as spies and scouts in many armies worldwide. It's quite likely that in the near future, detective agencies will use drones for surveillance and monitoring of their clients' targets.
For such an idea, the smallest quadcopter like the Hubsan H107C can already be utilized, easily fitting in the palm of your hand. Here's a video you can capture with this little device:
4. Window Banner Delivery to Girlfriend/Boss/Official
It would be amusing to photograph the surprised face of your loved one or your boss who sees a large banner with congratulations or a funny picture outside their 16th-floor window. This could be one of the services offered by a party agency.
5. Child Monitoring
It's not far-fetched to imagine that in the near future, when batteries become more powerful or solar panels with sufficient power are installed on quadcopters, these devices could monitor children in daycares and schools, continuously record video, and stream live video to parents. This is likely to become a reality very soon. Check out this video to see the possibilities:
Most of the ideas mentioned above are currently just concepts. Nevertheless, modern quadcopters capable of flying for up to half an hour without requiring battery recharge can be purchased by anyone today. Prices range from $100 to infinity. An average model with good optics, GPS, and battery packs can cost between $1000 and $4000.
