Remember how challenging it is to make substantial purchases in a shopping mall when you have a child with you who quickly gets bored of a long shopping experience. In such cases, parents are saved by children's play areas or kids' rooms. They can be both a part of the shopping mall and a standalone business. In any case, such a business idea can bring direct revenue or indirectly increase the mall's income by making it more attractive to visitors.

In addition to shopping malls, such play zones for children are in high demand in restaurants, spa salons, ski resorts, hotels, and all other types of businesses where organizing children's entertainment can enhance visitor comfort. Therefore, in a large city, services for equipping children's play areas are highly sought after.

Let's explore the most interesting and profitable option - creating a children's playroom as a standalone business.

Things to Consider When Starting a Business

Your first step should be to study all the legislative acts and regulations related to children's equipment and the responsibility for a child's life and health. It is also essential to familiarize yourself with the technical regulations of fire safety.

Special attention should be given to the selection of staff - and it is worth starting this process even before purchasing equipment and finding a location. Your employees should instill trust even in the most skeptical parents. Your staff should have at least experience working with children, and ideally should have an educational background in pedagogy. An important aspect is that the prospective employee should have a letter of recommendation or a reference from their previous workplace - after all, if the employee shows negligence, you will be responsible for it.

Choosing a Location

The future children's room should be located in a place with a high customer traffic, and shopping centers with high footfall are ideal for this purpose. However, it is worth carefully analyzing how in-demand your services will be beforehand. The main factor is the presence of stores in the shopping center where choosing goods requires time. The more brand retailers are represented in the shopping center, the more people will visit it for several hours. Every family visiting with children will be happy to leave their bored child in the playroom.

Keep in mind that the rent in such a center will be high, but with such a dense flow of customers, advertising expenses will be almost unnecessary.

You need to clearly define the area of the future children's playroom. Statistics show that in a large shopping mall in a city with a population of over 1 million, the average footfall on weekends is around 100 people and approximately 30-40 on weekdays. When equipping a playroom for children, do so based on the calculation of 2 square meters per person. Therefore, if you assume that ten children will play in the room simultaneously, you need to rent a space of 20 square meters.

You can determine the potential footfall not only by external statistics - one of the best ways is to conduct surveys, which will show how willing the mall's customers are to use your services.

Equipment Selection

An excellent choice would be to install a maze. It is a modular structure two to three stories high, and you can select individual elements according to your preferences. Children particularly love the dry ball pit filled with plastic balls and a trampoline. It's also a good idea to install a slide, an obstacle course, woven or plastic tunnels, and more. The more complex and elaborate the structure, the more children will want to stay in your playroom.

It is best to order the maze directly from the manufacturer so that you know who is responsible for the quality of the structure. You can get any configuration of modules and order additional elements if you want to expand your maze.

You also need equipment for quieter games:

  • Playhouses.
  • Kids' kitchens.
  • Tables for molding and drawing.
  • Easels for drawing with chalk or washable markers.

Organizational Aspects

To prevent misunderstandings with parents, you should prominently display a list of rules for using the room. In most cases, entrepreneurs use the following points:

  • Children should not be left for more than 4 hours.
  • Children under three years old should not be in the room without adult supervision.
  • If a child behaves aggressively, damages property, and does not respond to warnings, parents must take the child home.
  • The maximum number of children allowed in the play area simultaneously is specified.
  • If a child is picked up early for any reason, money is refunded only for the full unused hour.
  • To enter the maze, one must remove shoes or wear a spare pair.
  • Sick-looking children are not allowed in the playroom.

Naturally, your rules may differ from this list. In any case, a set of rules is necessary - it will help you resolve any conflicts with parents.

Increasing Revenue

There are several ways to increase revenue from your children's playroom. First and foremost, you need to conduct a statistical study and understand when the room is most filled with children. Promotions and discounts should be scheduled during the least busy hours to attract additional customers. Another great idea is to hold holidays and birthdays. However, for this, you need to initially lease a space with a large area.

As you can see, a children's playroom is a good business idea, and if you establish a network in several shopping malls, you can earn a decent income.
