he Success Story of European Immigrant in America
Stories of immigrants leaving their homelands in Europe and finding success in the United States are no longer surprising. The boundaries between civilized nations are becoming increasingly blurred, making adaptation in a new society somewhat easier. However, not all immigrants achieve success. Only a few manage to truly excel, while others blend into the masses or even return home.
There are many reasons for such varying outcomes. Inability to adapt, poor language skills, lack of connections, and sometimes sheer laziness all play a part. Oksana Sivukha, originally from Belarus, believes that the main factor hindering people from fully realizing themselves in a new country is loneliness and the lack of support. She moved to New York in 2007 and attributes her success to the assistance she received from Concord Rusam.
The Challenges of Translation
Back in her homeland, Oksana worked as a midwife while also studying at a prestigious medical school in Gomel, Belarus, after completing a specialized college program. Her experience was quite extensive, especially considering her young age, and she envisioned her future career solely in the field of medicine. However, upon arriving in the U.S., things took an unexpected turn.
With a green card, a little son, and only $200 in her pocket, Oksana faced challenges. She did not speak English and was not tech-savvy. Moreover, in the U.S., she could not practice as a midwife without further education, despite her experience in labor and women's healthcare in Belarus!
Undeterred, Oksana landed her first job in a pharmacy within three days of her arrival in America. Simultaneously, she started exploring educational opportunities, eventually finding one!
Concord Rusam - Unexpected Assistance
n a newspaper ad, Oksana came across information about Concord Rusam, a school specializing in retraining professionals with medical backgrounds. The education required payment, which she couldn't afford. At times, she survived on leftovers from her son's school lunch. However, luck was on her side again; the school's management agreed to a step-by-step payment plan for the entire course. Nevertheless, to secure this opportunity, our heroine had to endure a rigorous interview process. The school had limited funding and needed to ensure they were investing in the right candidate.
Concord Rusam made the right choice. After three and a half years, Oksana Sivukha completed her studies, passed the exam on her first attempt, and obtained a Registered Nurse license. She also earned a bachelor's degree. Most of the journey was complete; now, she needed to find employment.
The Beginning of a Successful Career
While studying at Concord Rusam, Oksana also worked as a home healthcare aide. Upon obtaining her nursing license, she embarked on a job search in her field, which lasted nearly six months. It was a challenging period, with each rejection knocking her off course. At times, she felt like giving up. Every medical institution she approached cited her lack of U.S. nursing experience as the reason for not hiring her.
Oksana even considered moving to a different state, despite her fondness for New York. However, after enduring such a strenuous and lengthy journey, giving up easily was not an option. The thought of relocating was halted by the realization of having to rebuild her life yet again—making new friends, adjusting to a different routine, changing her son's school, and so on. Finally, her job search paid off, and she landed a nursing position at a Russian medical office.
From that point on, her career trajectory soared. With the required work experience in hand, she effortlessly switched employers several times, continuously advancing her skills. Today, Oksana is completely satisfied with her situation and her prospects. She believes that America gave her opportunities her homeland couldn't provide. Consequently, she considers the U.S. her number one home! Despite all the hardships, she felt that here, through education, perseverance, and resilience, success was inevitable!
