Previously on the website, there have been articles about using drones for starting your own business. Most of the business ideas described in these articles are still concepts that could be realized only in the future. Currently, the practical application of quadcopters is mainly focused on aerial video and photography. The purposes of such aerial shots can vary widely, from creating promotional videos to covering events and capturing real estate properties.

It's evident that those most interested in quadcopters are individuals involved in photography and videography. To achieve their goals, they require a high-quality quadcopter equipped with premium optics, capable of staying airborne for 20-25 minutes, and featuring user-friendly controls. However, a significant obstacle arises as the starting price for such drones is around $1000 and above. Not every photographer or videographer can afford to invest such a sum in a "flying camera."

Due to this situation, only a few companies currently own quadcopters, giving them the upper hand in setting terms and prices for their services, including drone rentals.

Current Standard Rental Conditions for Quadcopters

Currently, it's as challenging for an average person to rent a drone as it is to purchase one. Typically, drone owners expect:

  • Rental fees around $100 for video shooting time.
  • A deposit equal to the full cost of the drone.
  • Compensation for repair costs and withholding the full deposit amount in case of damage or accidents.

Consider how many individuals would be willing to risk a deposit of over $1000 and potentially cover repair costs. Currently, it is easier for consumers to pay slightly more for drone usage by hiring a specialist from a drone-operating company. In this scenario, the responsibility for the drone's safety lies with the operator. Hence, drone rental is not considered a lucrative business among our compatriots at the moment.

Creating a Profitable Business Idea for Drone Rentals

Similarly to any business, to attract a steady stream of drone rental orders, the service needs to be accessible to a broad range of potential clients. In this case, this entails lowering rental costs, eliminating deposits, and simplifying the rental application process. This can be achieved by:

  • Developing a website and mobile applications that enable users to place orders. Registration on the site should involve a one-time user verification, granting them access to the drone at any time without visiting an office for paperwork.
  • Replacing the deposit with insurance included in the rental fee. This insurance enables the company to cover losses in case of drone damage.
  • Placing drones in anti-vandal cabinets for recharging, accessible through the website or app in locations where drones are frequently used such as parks, stadiums, large hotels, and restaurant complexes.
  • Equipping drones with software that autonomously returns them to their cabinets after the rental period or battery runs out.

Undoubtedly, such a business idea would thrive only in large cities with sufficient populations. Additionally, effective modern advertising methods are crucial for launching this project — utilizing social media, promotional activities, flash mobs, viral marketing, and other means to attract loyal clientele.

A project of this nature will require substantial investments or a strong initial capital. However, the most appealing aspect of this business idea is the lack of competition in the market, allowing you to dominate it. Furthermore, in the future, drone rentals could be just one of many services offered through a fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles. Examples of similar services can be found in the first and second parts of the corresponding article on our website.
