Climbing Holds as Mug Handles: A Unique Business Idea
In many major cities, a popular form of entertainment and exercise can be found in indoor climbing gyms. This trend has gained popularity in recent years. The appearance of climbing gyms is appealing as they have been influenced by Western design. The key components in creating a successful climbing wall simulation are the climbing holds. These holds come in various shapes (often colorful in many climbing gyms), bolted to the wall, serving as the grips for climbers.
These holds play a crucial role as a sort of "ladder" for climbers, allowing them to ascend and descend. The only common characteristic among all climbing holds is the bolt used to secure them to the wall.
Creative Thinking: Turning Holds into Mug Handles
One climber and visitor to these climbing gyms had the innovative idea to use climbing holds as handles for mugs. The creator believed that if a person held the mug using the climbing hold just like a climber grips it, the mug would not slip out of their hand.
This concept led to the creation of the unique "mug for climbers." To diversify the range of these mugs, a vast assortment of climbing holds in different shapes and colors came in handy. This marked the beginning of a thriving business initiated by a climbing enthusiast and his wife.
Together, in their own garage, they craft various climbing holds from a material called polyurethane, attaching them to mugs to create intriguing combinations. These holds are affixed using glue or similar methods. The bolts often visible on these handle-holds are purely decorative and do not play a role in securing the hold to the mug.
Revenue from Unconventional Mugs
Despite the fact that the business operates from a garage with only two employees, the revenue is considerable. Each mug in their store is priced at $24, and over the past two years, approximately 3000 mugs have been sold, resulting in a total revenue of $72,000.
