The Rise of Hoverboards: Futuristic Transportation Innovations
Ever heard of an innovative eco-friendly car or a super-durable motorcycle? Think modern consumers can't be surprised anymore? Well, science and car manufacturers have proven otherwise by bringing to life the amazing concept of a flying hoverboard.
The Hoverboard Legacy
The idea of using a hoverboard was first showcased in the movie "Back to the Future 2," where Marty McFly zips around with the professor, performing daring stunts.
Setting New Heights
A Canadian inventor created a hoverboard that soared 275.9 meters above a lake, setting a new record confirmed by the Guinness World Records.
A generation of inventors worked to create a device that could lift a person while maintaining stability. Canadian-Romanian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru spent over a year developing his version of a hoverboard.
He built a machine with 8 rotors capable of lifting a person over 5 meters high. For safety reasons, the tests, shared on YouTube, were conducted over a lake to soften a potential fall impact.
Despite successful trials, the inventor kept details about the hoverboard's design and operation confidential, revealing only that 8 motors provide lift, working synchronously for balance. Control is achieved by adjusting the center of gravity.
An engineering challenge was that the hoverboard ascended to greater heights compared to the prototype in "Back to the Future 2," which hovered mere centimeters above the ground. Duru's next iteration aims to fly no more than 1 meter high and operate in automatic mode.
Interestingly, hoverboards utilizing rotor thrust aren't the only futuristic designs inspired by the famous movie. In 2014, a device based on electromagnetic levitation technology above special metallic tracks was created.
As of now, the flying hoverboard remains a "prototype" and manufacturers don't plan to release it for sale yet, as further refinements are needed. Share this information on social media—perhaps one of your friends will come up with ideas to enhance this exciting project?
