The creators of this innovative business idea were able to earn millions of dollars from such an unconventional item as a case for paintbrushes. Every painter knows how much of a headache can be caused by a paint-stained brush:
- It smudges everything it touches.
- If forgotten, it dries up and becomes unusable.
- It's always dirty after use.
Painters often have to clean their brushes after work, carry them in a damp state in their bags, and during work, keep them in a jar of water to prevent them from drying out.
Professionals used to store their tools in improvised cases, bags, and the like.
A problem solver - Salvatore De Paola, a firefighter from New York, invented a special case.
New Yorker and firefighter Salvatore DePaola came up with a case for paintbrushes.
The case's design prevents the brush from drying out, and a special lining near the handle opening prevents paint from leaking out. Salvatore, with the help of friends, started producing these cases himself and selling them through neighboring stores. Gradually, cases for brushes of different sizes and paint rollers were added to the assortment.
The initial sales brought in $35,000 in profit. After that, Salvatore decided to participate in the television program "Shark Tank," where young entrepreneurs seek sponsors to develop their projects. He presented his cases and quickly found a sponsor who invested $200,000 in production development. The investor received a 20% stake in the new business.
With the funds received, production was strengthened, 18 employees were hired, and a warehouse was rented. During this time, the design of the case was significantly redesigned, and contracts were signed with a network of stores selling building and household goods.
Nine months after the "Shark Tank" broadcast, the project to sell paintbrush cases brought in $1.5 million. Another million was earned three months later. The network of stores displaying the product grew to 1400 retail points across the USA.
Success was made possible thanks to the simplicity of the production processes. These products are made from special granulated plastic. The most challenging part is creating the mold for casting. The initial production was set up in a garage and grew in one year from a makeshift workshop into a multimillion-dollar company.
It's absolutely easy to replicate the success of Americans. The key is to base the business on satisfying some everyday need that people encounter regularly. Then, steadily move towards success. Fortunately, modern crowdfunding platforms allow gathering investments for any promising project.
