Vending – sales through specialized vending machines – has entered our lives abruptly and rapidly. And, interestingly, we have already become accustomed to it. Today, there is a plethora of products and services sold through vending machines, ranging from tea and coffee to flowers. But have you ever thought about the connection between vending and the healthcare system? It turns out, yes. In this article, we will delve into such a new business idea as selling shoe covers through vending machines.
What are shoe covers, you might ask. If you have ever visited relatives or friends in a hospital or maternity ward, you may have been asked to put on a disposable gown, mask, and shoe covers upon entry – these are disposable plastic slippers. Typically, these items are sold at pharmacies or right at the hospital entrance. The demand for this product can be judged by standing in line for these very shoe covers. Depending on the size of the hospital, you may have to wait in line for 15 minutes or even half an hour when people are buying. After all, the seller needs to take the money, count it, and give change – a process that can take a minute.

However, selling manually in our time is inefficient, which is where shoe cover vending machines come into play. You can find numerous such machines on the internet. An average machine can hold up to 6000 shoe cover capsules, have a coin or bill acceptor, and some machines can even provide change. The result is an automated seller that does not require a salary and works much faster than a human. And, very pleasingly, the price is low – $170-350. A reasonable cost, and a promising business, wouldn't you agree?

Starting a Shoe Cover Sales Business Requires the Following:
- Buy vending machines. You can find and order them online independently.
- Rent space in maternity wards and hospitals. Each machine will occupy between half and one and a half square meters.
- Sign a contract with the hospital management (you may have to pay them either a percentage of sales or a fixed fee).
- Purchase shoe cover capsules. It is recommended to buy a large quantity at once, as the consumption will be quite high. You can purchase them from vending machine suppliers.
How Much Can You Earn from This?
Wholesale price of shoe cover capsules is approximately 10 cents. When purchased separately, shoe covers and capsules are even cheaper. Profit will depend on the foot traffic at the location. Let's assume you set the price at 17 cents per capsule and have 100 people passing by per day. In this scenario, you will earn $7 per day or $210 per month. From this amount, you will need to give the hospital management $30-60. As a result, the net profit will amount to $150-180 per month from a single machine. Keep in mind that we took a foot traffic of 100 people per day, which is likely a minimum. Before starting the business, it's advisable to calculate the actual foot traffic considering that some people may bring their own shoe covers or use those bought elsewhere. Also, note that we used an average price of 17 cents, whereas in some hospitals, shoe covers are sold for 25 or even 35 cents. While the price may be high, visitors will have to purchase your product – without shoe covers, they won't be allowed into the patient's room. Therefore, the initial investment can pay off within 2-3 months.

Conclusions
Considering that every city has at least one hospital, clinic, or maternity ward, shoe covers are a convenient item for vending. The initial investment is not large, and most importantly, there is no need for advertising. It can be confidently stated that the business idea of installing a shoe cover vending machine is a lucrative venture. Install vending machines in places where they are needed, and customers will come to you.
