Rozetka.ua: A Success Story in Ukrainian E-commerce
For the past decade, the prominent online store in Ukraine, Rozetka.ua, has been outperforming its competitors and dominating the sales of electronics and household appliances in the country. The majority of Rozetka's media advertising is positioned on Ukrainian e-commerce platforms.
The inception of one of Ukraine's most successful businesses was driven by a woman – the wife of an employee at a wholesale company specializing in office equipment sales. Ten years ago, Vladyslav Chechetkin, a regular manager, took the bold step of starting his own business at his wife's urging. He became the head of this new venture. Following the birth of their child, the young mother refused to work under someone else and encouraged her husband to embark on his entrepreneurial journey. The thriving business brought both profit and joy, rapidly transforming into Ukraine's largest online store. According to estimates, the segment's revenue reached approximately $1 billion, with 35% attributed to Rozetka.

The Birth of an Idea for a Business
Vladyslav, with an economics background, worked as a manager in a major wholesale company dealing with office equipment sales. He was involved in purchasing phones, computers, and scanners for large clients. During his successful career, the thought of starting his own business never crossed his mind. It was his wife, Irina, who, after returning from maternity leave, expressed her desire to explore something beyond the ordinary. Vladyslav redirected his plans from opening an online perfume store to electronics after facing resistance from major brands against selling their products online. With nine years of experience in electronics sales, Vladyslav seamlessly transitioned into entrepreneurship. Initially, Irina took charge of managing the business, but parenting duties left her with little time for the company. Consequently, Vladyslav stepped in to help tackle the complex challenges.
Vladyslav initially invested $250,000 of his own funds in his brainchild, a substantial amount for that time. Currently, such an investment would be significantly larger. The store was named, and a logo depicting a socket was chosen, symbolizing "Rozetka" perfectly. With forums and contextual advertising through "Begun" and "Yandex," as social media wasn't prevalent in the CIS region in 2004-2005, they kickstarted the store’s promotion and development, yielding positive outcomes.
