In any case, everyone agrees that emotions play a key role in a gift. If it can surprise and delight your loved one, and moreover, if it leaves a lasting memory of you for years to come, then it can be considered successful. The success of any successful gift shop business is built on the belief that a gift should be emotional.

However, its range consists of a vast number of useful (and not so useful) little things, beautiful knick-knacks, vibrant souvenirs, and more. Therefore, in this article, we will only consider the basic aspects of establishing a small store.

Possible Challenges
espite the obvious appeal of such a business, there are quite a few risks involved. Among them, the following should be highlighted:
- High rental costs. Since the store needs to be in a busy location (such as a shopping center, market, lively city district, etc.), be prepared to pay a substantial amount for rent. Additionally, a gift shop is not a small cigarette kiosk, where a couple of square meters are sufficient. For a proper retail point, you should find a space of no less than 30 sq. m, preferably 100 sq. m or more. Remember that you are selling emotional gifts, which means they need to be not just purchased and added to the inventory, but also presented correctly to your customers – for which spacious displays, etc., are necessary.
- Suppliers. As mentioned earlier, focusing on artisanal products is desirable. It would be excellent if you could find local artists and designers willing to supply you with their products at a reasonable price. However, in reality, you will likely have to establish contacts with overseas suppliers.
- Competition. Surviving the competition with large gift shop chains is challenging but entirely possible, provided you approach the opening of your retail point wisely.
