Success stories are incredibly inspiring for individuals embarking on their entrepreneurial journey. Take, for example, the well-known automotive company "Peugeot," which didn't always enjoy widespread popularity. It started with making crinolines for women's dresses and grinders for coffee machines.

Family Enterprise

Like many successful companies, Peugeot was a family affair, involving brothers and sons from the Peugeot family. Interestingly, this lineage dates back to the 15th century.

In 1882, Peugeot started producing bicycles, but in less than 10 years, it had become one of the largest car manufacturers.

By 1889, the first cars emerged, running on steam engines and resembling tricycles. Arman Peugeot commissioned gasoline-powered engines, leading to the production of the first car, Type 2, in 1890. Despite its flaws, 10 different cars with various features were manufactured the following year. One car captured public attention during the Paris-Brest race, signaling the future success of the empire.

In 1892, Peugeot issued an order that remains a museum gem. It was a car with a silver body made of cast precious metal and a 4-cylinder engine. This car participated in the Paris-Rouen car race, finishing second.

Rapid Development

The pace of Peugeot's car production development soared rapidly. In 1895, only 72 cars were sold, but four years later, over 300 were sold.

In 1896, the automotive firm merged and transformed into the "Peugeot Automobile Company." The primary goal was to design an affordable, straightforward car suitable for city driving. Bugatti, a renowned engineer in car manufacturing, was invited to create a popular car. The Bebe Peugeot was introduced in 1905, and within a year, 400 models were sold.

Another best-seller was the 1913 Peugeot Goux Model, capable of reaching nearly 190 km/h. Peugeot's success at that time was greatly attributed to introducing conveyor assembly principles.

In 1915, Arman Peugeot passed away, but his legacy continued with his close relatives. After World War I, the Peugeot Quadrilette model was released, known for its low fuel consumption and city-friendly design. Gradually, more expensive sedans were also produced.

True enthusiasts who adore vintage cars can profit handsomely from their passion. Restoring vintage cars can be a highly profitable business venture.

Companies like "Bellanger" and "De Dion-Bouton" merged with Peugeot, with the latter's car outpacing Peugeot in a Paris car race, becoming the main future competitor. During the war years, the Peugeot 402 sedan, suitable for most people due to its price, was in demand.

Peugeot's shares during World War II were controlled by Volkswagen. The 1960s saw the introduction of new elite-level models. In 1966, Peugeot signed a technical cooperation agreement with Volvo and Renault. Renault owes its success to Louis Renault, who revolutionized the automotive industry with his self-invented gearbox. In 1974, Peugeot merged with Citroen to form a consolidated group, later joined by "Chrysler Europe."

Modern Approach

Despite making significant strides in car manufacturing, Peugeot continues to lead the market in bicycles and motorcycles. Interestingly, the Peugeot 205 model was produced from 1983 to 1995, and its name was reflected in the French slogan used in advertisements (205 - a lucky number).

The Peugeot 605 model was continually refined until 1998. The compact Peugeot 106 has been in production since 1996, with a new generation model introduced in the same year. The best-seller in the mid-range class remains the Peugeot 405, along with the budget model Peugeot 306, a compact lower-middle-class car.

The first Peugeot cabriolet was unveiled in 1993, with an enhanced station wagon body exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show in 1997. In March 1996, the Peugeot 806 minivan was launched, a successful outcome of collaboration between Peugeot/Citroen and Fiat/Lancia. The 1995 Peugeot 405 model underwent rapid redesign and was renamed the 406 by 1999, solidifying its success. Buyers were captivated by variations of this model, including a station wagon and a coupe. The introduction of the Peugeot Partner was a breakthrough in the model range, closely resembling its Citroen counterpart Berlingo. It is available in several versions - a two-seater and a five-seater van.

Peugeot 206 - Sales Leader

Undoubtedly, the Peugeot 206 was a resounding success, being the best-selling model of all time. It marks Peugeot's second-largest success since the legendary 205 model. In 2000, a coupe convertible 206 was unveiled in Paris, accompanied by bold conceptual cars, including the golf-class hatchback "Promethee." Peugeot 308, awarded "Car of the Year" in 2014, also deserves recognition.

Conclusion

Over its 200-year history, the Peugeot conglomerate has traversed a long and successful path. The key to its success was the unwavering belief of the company's founder in the future of humanity through innovative solutions. Equally essential was the fervent support of the founder's sons and brothers, preserving the company's core concept even after his passing, leading to increased revenue.

If you have a passion for the automotive business, you can start small by organizing a rental service for children's cars, including precise replicas of famous brands. Share the information from this article on social media with your friends. It's possible that some of your acquaintances drive a Peugeot and are unaware of the fascinating history behind this automotive empire.
