American scientists from Ohio University have developed a unique material that allows for the complete pouring of liquids of varying densities from a bottle. This material is strategically placed on the inner part of the container to reduce production costs. Previous versions were primarily designed for food products, but faced issues with cleaning using conventional methods.
Reasons for Material Creation and Operation Principle
While the product has not been given a definitive name yet, its operational principle has been detailed. A microstructure is applied to the inner part of the polypropylene material to create air pockets that are invisible to the naked eye. This design prevents liquid contact with the surface, effectively reducing friction to almost zero.
Scientists have highlighted that the motivation behind creating this material was not simply about reducing waste. The key objectives included:
1. Cost savings: Disposing of residues negatively impacts production, as a significant amount of products is used to create the desired consistency.
2. Processing convenience: Every year, tons of PET materials are discarded worldwide. Processing these materials along with leftover contents is more complex and expensive.
3. Environmental impact: Since the material is washable, it can be reused, thereby reducing the number of plastic items being disposed of.
Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the manufacturing technology for these products is quite intricate, making it premature to speak about immediate cost savings. In the future, there may be advancements in equipment technology that could lower production costs, positively impacting all aspects of the material. Consequently, the products will attract not only consumers but also entrepreneurs.
