About the Project

The Amazon smart refrigerator is much more than just a food storage appliance. In addition to its primary function, it can automatically track the owner's preferences and the availability of various products inside. The device autonomously compiles a shopping list and places an order at the store. The project creators promise that delivery using this system will take no more than an hour.

The refrigerator is expected to feature a large touchscreen display, along with the intelligent assistant Alexa, capable of performing a wide range of functions - from checking the weather to setting a kitchen timer, finding recipes, and even calling a taxi to your home! The touchscreen display can be easily turned off, allowing you to view the contents of the refrigerator without opening its door.

Competition for the Market

Amazon does not plan to manufacture refrigerators on its own, but the company is ready to collaborate closely with advanced manufacturers like LG and Samsung. Moreover, at the recent CES 2017 exhibition, the first refrigerator from LG utilizing Amazon's technological developments was already unveiled. The Smart InstaView model features a 29-inch display, runs on webOS, and fully interacts with the voice assistant Alexa. Undoubtedly, in the near future, other variations of "smart" refrigerators will emerge.
