Welcome to the sweet world of Ritter Sport, a globally renowned German chocolate company that has captured the hearts of chocolate lovers worldwide. Founded by the union of two confectioners, Alfred Ritter and Clara Gottlieb, in the 1920s, Ritter Sport is a shining example of a successful family business that has flourished over generations to become one of the most popular producers of cocoa-based treats in Europe and beyond.

The company's journey began with Alfred gaining valuable experience at a large confectionery factory in Stuttgart post-World War I, where he honed his craft and learned the secrets of crafting high-quality chocolate. This experience, coupled with passion and dedication, laid the foundation for their small family enterprise.

Ritter Sport gained prominence for its chocolate bars with various fillings, a novelty during that time. The Alrika bars with raspberry, orange, and rum fillings quickly became a hit, setting the company apart.

Within a few years, the company employed over 80 individuals, with a unique touch of providing transportation to work in a Ritter-branded bus, showcasing innovation and care for its employees.

However, it was Ritter Sport's introduction of square-shaped chocolate bars, a brainchild of Clara, that truly revolutionized the confectionery market. Inspired by the design of sport jackets with small square pockets, the idea of compact and convenient chocolate bars took shape.

Initially not intended as the flagship product, the square bars soon became the iconic symbol of the company, emblematic of innovation and thoughtful design.

By the mid-1960s, Ritter Sport phased out other products, focusing solely on the square bars, a strategic decision that solidified its position in the chocolate market, backed by the visionary leadership of the founders’ son.

In the 1970s, the famous slogan "Quadratisch. Praktisch. Gut" (Square. Practical. Good.) was introduced, further cementing Ritter Sport's reputation through effective advertising.

Another standout feature of Ritter Sport is its vast array of chocolate varieties, boasting around 30 different combinations of chocolate types and fillings. The company was among the first to use color-coded packaging for different flavors, setting a trend that inspired countless others across the globe in the 1970s.

In 2005, the company saw the reins passed to Alfred Ritter's grandson, who proved to be a successful leader, steering Ritter Sport to its current status as one of the most beloved chocolate brands globally. Ritter Sport continues to delight consumers of all ages with its delectable and quality products, embodying the essence of a true family business.
