The diversity of dishes in Thai cuisine has led to the necessity of reducing their calorie content. Currently, Thailand ranks second in the number of inhabitants suffering from obesity in Asian countries. To lower the fat content in dishes, local scientists have invented plates made from special materials. These plates are capable of absorbing up to 7 milliliters of oil.
Structural Features
The product is called the "AbsorbPlate." However, the dish is not designed to absorb the contents of the food. The Thailand Health Foundation and the company BBDO jointly came up with a design that contains about 500 pores. These pores allow excess oil to flow to a small tray under the base.
Considering people's issues and the characteristics of Thai cuisine, which relies heavily on frying foods in oil, the product offers numerous advantages:
- It absorbs approximately 30 calories from each dish (equivalent to 1.5 teaspoons of oil).
- The production cost is relatively low.
- The plates are easy to clean.
- They have a positive impact on an individual's health and weight.
However, the project is still in the development stage. Concepts of the future product have been presented, but a mass launch date has not been set. Furthermore, manufacturers have not commented on the viability of using these plates with "dry" dishes.
According to company statements, the innovative dish will be further refined and is expected to hit the market by the end of the year. Specific modifications were not mentioned in the report, but it is understood that they will aim to reduce production costs and increase manufacturing speed. The distribution of these oil-reducing plates worldwide is also not disclosed. However, if the project proves to be effective, production rights may quickly be acquired by European and American countries, and possibly China.
