Today, the extensive use of unmanned aerial vehicles no longer surprises anyone, as this device has become an excellent means of transporting and delivering various goods and products to different parts of our planet, without requiring special conditions or expenses. In one of our previous articles, we discussed the benefits and advantages of this useful invention, as well as the potential ways it can be utilized.
Aside from its transport function, such a device can be utilized for photo and video shooting, serving as a waiter or nanny for your child, or even as a spy in detective agencies. In today's article, we will explore how such an unmanned aerial vehicle, also known as a quadcopter or drone, can be used by postal services.
According to the media, the courier service DHL was the first to test this new piece of technological progress and noted that such drones are an excellent way to optimize the delivery of items of various sizes and shapes, significantly saving on parcel transportation costs. The company's management dared to experiment with using a drone instead of traditional means of transporting goods to deliver necessary medications to the German island of Juist, located twelve kilometers off the mainland of Germany.
As a result, DHL benefited financially, as the transportation using a quadcopter required significantly fewer resources compared to using a helicopter or ferry for the same purpose. Additionally, a huge advantage of the drone is its excellent performance regardless of weather conditions, unlike other means of transport that cannot transport goods during a storm or other unfavorable weather. The average speed of such an aerial vehicle is approximately 65 kilometers per hour, which is quite impressive considering the size and technical specifications of this postal drone.
The globally renowned internet service Amazon has also taken a serious interest in this method of delivering its numerous packages. Over the next five years, they plan to launch and enhance a service for delivering various goods to any part of the United States within 30 minutes. This future service of the corporation has been tentatively named Prime Air and is currently actively being developed by Amazon's research department under the guidance of the company's CEO, Jeff Bezos.
Unmanned drones can transport goods weighing up to 2.3 kilograms, and approximately 80% of the internet store's assortment falls under this category. Human involvement will only be required at the initial stage of order processing, where a company worker needs to pick up the item in the warehouse and specify the delivery address, while the rest of the work will be handled by the postal quadcopter.
According to Amazon employees, in the near future, the utilization of such unmanned aerial vehicles for various purposes, including delivering goods to different parts of the world, will become a commonplace occurrence that will no longer amaze anyone.
