British innovator Sasha Afanasieva has unveiled her latest creation, Blubel. At first glance, it may appear to be a simple bicycle bell, but in reality, it is a top-notch navigator designed for navigating through bustling urban landscapes.

How Does It Work?

Blubel attaches to the handlebars and syncs with a dedicated GPS app on your smartphone. You can set an optimal route tailored for a large city, factoring in road conditions, construction, traffic jams, and more. It also proves incredibly handy for exploring unfamiliar cities.

But that's not the only feature of this device. It can also function as a communication network with other cyclists worldwide. Pressing the bell leaves a mark on an interactive map for fellow cyclists, indicating road obstacles, traffic congestion, or available bike parking. Your device will also receive similar signals from other cyclists.

Another function of Blubel is as a fitness tracker. It collects data on speed, distance traveled, route, and more, allowing you to establish an effective workout routine based on this data.

Developers also included standard functionality. Pressing the bell emits a familiar "Ding" sound, alerting others on the road of your presence.

Project Status

Blubel is currently crowdfunding on the Kickstarter platform. It has won prestigious technology competitions like Tech.London and IBM SmartCityChallenge, receiving support from corporate giants like IBM and the European Space Agency. Preliminary estimates suggest each device will cost around $65-70, making it one of the most affordable ways to enhance cyclist safety on the road.
