Ten years ago, science fiction writers used to sound alarm bells about an impending energy crisis and the apocalypse lurking around the corner. Their warnings weren't far from reality – most resources are indeed finite, with the exception of solar and wind energy. Solar-powered homes are no longer a novelty, there are cars like the Volkswagen running on solar energy, and even the Solar Impulse 2, a plane powered by solar panels, is a remarkable feat of technology.
