Anyone who has ever developed their own business idea knows how crucial it is to motivate potential customers to take the actions you desire. The best approach in this matter is to use unconventional methods that can intrigue a person and make them act in the desired way with genuine pleasure.
A great example of such an approach was demonstrated by the company Hubbub. In this case, it's not about a business idea but about an initiative aimed at cleaning the streets of the city. However, such tactics can assist you in implementing your own advertising and PR campaigns. By looking at this initiative from a different perspective, valuable insights can be gained.
The Essence of Hubbub's #neatstreets Initiative
Think about how irritating cigarette butts on sidewalks, gum stuck in unexpected places, and other litter scattered around us can be. How often do you see people react to signs like "Dispose of cigarette butts in the bin!" or "Do not litter in the park!"? Such signs often lead most people to rebel against the prohibition and litter freely.
Hubbub took a completely different approach. Unusual installations were placed all over London: boards with two transparent boxes, each allowing you to drop a cigarette butt through a hole. The sign above the stand reads: "Vote with your butt." A question is written above each box (for example: "Who is the best soccer player?"). By dropping a butt into one of the boxes, a person clearly indicates their opinion.
A similar approach was taken towards the chewing gum problem - the company created stands with questions, the answers to which can be revealed by sticking gum on faint dotted points.
It can be said that Hubbub worked wonders - in the areas where these stands were placed, it's almost impossible to find cigarette butts or stuck gums on the ground!
This approach was inspired by a social survey showing that 86% of London residents cannot stand litter. Only 15% consistently dispose of their gum and butts in trash cans. This led to the realization that by slightly intriguing people, they might stop littering around them.
So, if your business idea is not working as planned, perhaps you just need to find a slightly different way to engage your potential customers? By discovering a new means of motivation, you can bring any business idea to life, even an unconventional one like creating toys based on children's drawings.
