In the realm of developing successful business ideas, the Japanese can outshine any nation in the world. Just consider how Japan revitalized its economy in just a few years after the end of World War II. Despite harsh economic sanctions, total depression, and a devastated economy, the Japanese managed to create an economic miracle. Even to this day, they continue to generate successful business concepts that enrich not only their inventors but also elevate the standard of living across the entire nation. One such idea involves repurposing golf courses into solar farms.
Business Idea: Repurposing Abandoned Golf Courses
One of Japan's major challenges is a shortage of land suitable for industrial business ventures, farms, and more. It is commonly believed that this scarcity of land drove the Japanese to establish numerous high-tech enterprises. In such cases, significant profits can be derived from small plots of land housing industrial facilities.
However, despite this land shortage, in Japan, one can come across peculiar sites like abandoned amusement parks and golf courses. Extensive areas were initially utilized to construct Western-style recreational infrastructure, yet these parks and courses turned out to be unprofitable and eventually abandoned. The issue with such lands lies in the substantial landscaping already done, requiring significant investment for construction work or the establishment of farming operations.
Considering a golf course, it comes with complex terrain, drainage systems, unique soil compositions (often reinforced with mesh for fertile layer preservation), and almost complete lack of shade. Just imagine the effort needed to convert such an area into a farm. How long would it take for such a farm to become profitable?
One company, Kyocera, found a solution by identifying two abandoned golf courses, one near Kyoto and the other close to Kagoshima. These sites will be transformed into massive solar panel complexes, capable of generating a significant amount of inexpensive electrical energy. Through this initiative, Kyocera achieves three goals simultaneously: repurposing abandoned land, providing affordable electricity to the population, and establishing a successful business.
Now, contemplate the numerous abandoned lands surrounding you and the myriad ways to create profitable and beneficial businesses. Do not hesitate to generate bold business ideas – after all, these lands can be utilized to create modern "solar power plants" or even revive a traditional business like sheep farming.
If you enjoyed this article, share it with your acquaintances. Perhaps soon, together, you will devise ways to effectively utilize abandoned lands in your region.
