How to Power an Entire Island with Solar Energy
The island of Tau is situated in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, far removed from the hustle and bustle of modern society. Home to 600 residents, this remote paradise relies entirely on diesel fuel shipments brought in by boats. To power the island's energy needs each year, over 400,000 liters of fuel are required – that's more than 1,000 liters per day. Recognizing the necessity to liberate Tau from energy dependence, Tesla and SolarCity have embarked on a mission to transition the island to sustainable energy sources.
Calorie-Absorbing Plates
The variety of dishes in Thai cuisine has led to the need to reduce their caloric content. Currently, Thailand ranks second in the number of obese residents in Asian countries. To decrease the fat content in dishes, local scientists have invented plates made from special materials. These plates can absorb up to 7 ml of oil, helping combat the growing obesity rates in the country.
