Growing Trends in Agriculture and the Rise of Greenhouse Farming in Europe

Year by year, the climate is changing more drastically, leading to increasingly unpredictable weather conditions. This significantly impacts agriculture, where cultivating vegetables, berries, and fruits becomes more challenging. Moreover, the overly polluted environment and harmful pesticide emissions pose additional problems for farming. In light of this, the search for alternative methods of safe and comfortable cultivation of garden crops is highly relevant.

The use of greenhouses can be seen as an ideal solution to this dilemma. Greenhouses allow for growing vegetables, fruits, and berries in a controlled microclimate environment, free from harmful soil substances – conditions that you create yourself. By utilizing greenhouses, farmers can obtain harvests several months earlier or throughout the year, potentially bringing additional profits. Another advantage of greenhouses is their compactness, allowing them to be placed anywhere, from a cottage plot to a large industrial site.

Planning Considerations for Greenhouse Business and Types of Greenhouses

The production and sale of greenhouses have become highly sought after, making it a promising sector in modern business. To establish a profitable venture, certain aspects need to be taken into account.

The primary principle of greenhouse business involves the production, sale, and installation of various types of greenhouses or conservatories. It is essential to note that the cost of materials for constructing conservatories and garden structures is significantly higher. However, with quality advertising campaigns and a reputable manufacturing company, these structures can garner high demand. Advertisement placements in publications with large circulations, gardening stores, or communities are crucial.

To manufacture a greenhouse, specialized technical equipment is required, either purchased within budget constraints or rented. Planning the supply of materials and essential construction components, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring quality and reliability are vital. Before commencing production, determining the group and type of greenhouses to be produced is necessary. The following categories of greenhouse structures exist:

  • Personal greenhouses – structures for cultivating various plant crops, including seedlings from spring to autumn, ideal for placement in cottage plots.
  • Farmer greenhouses – larger facilities designed for professional farming operations, allowing year-round plant cultivation.
  • Industrial greenhouses – the largest structures for year-round plant cultivation, including trees, on an industrial scale.

These groups vary in size, technical equipment level, automation degree, and financial aspects.

Varieties of Greenhouses

Several business options can be pursued for successful growth:

  • Independent production of small-sized greenhouse structures (from 12m² to 24m²) with subsequent delivery and on-site assembly as per customer specifications. This is cost-effective as these compact greenhouses have light weights (around 55-100 kg) and can be transported in standard vehicles, with installation services adding extra income.
  • Manufacturing arched greenhouses with tubular frames, polycarbonate, and film covering, followed by installation. These structures are easy to install as they do not require concrete foundations and can be mounted directly on the ground. This option is more suitable for established businesses due to potential additional financial investments.
  • For initial stages, constructing modular pavilion-style greenhouses with polycarbonate material is an ideal choice. These objects are up to two meters tall and boast sturdy constructions with excellent thermal insulation and durability. Creating such a structure involves minimal costs, and the entire process can generate substantial profits.
